Gayà: "We have to get the win in the next game"
The captain gives his assessment of the defeat to FC Barcelona
Valencia CF captain José Luis Gayà spoke after the 6-0 loss on the road against FC Barcelona, and acknowledged that the team struggled in the second half.
The performance
“After holding our own in the first half, we came out for the second half and that second goal hurt us a lot, because with the score at 1-0 we were still in the game. We had that ball that Hugo Duro stole from which we could have made it 1-1, but after their second goal they were far superior. We've been preparing for the game all these days, and then we weren't able to counter their strengths, and we're leaving with a very comprehensive defeat.”
The gameplan
“It didn't work out for us. We like to press, to go forward, and today the plan was to close our lines, try to keep them from getting in behind us, but we weren't able to do it. If we practice one thing and then aren't able to do it in the game, then that’s what happens.”
The result
“Last year, we were able to pick ourselves up after the defeats against FC Barcelona. Today, it hurts a lot that it happened again, against them. We came into this one hoping to have a good game, but it didn't work out. The season is just starting, and in the next game we have to get the three points.”
